After two-and-a-half years at Clint’s law firm with only “long weekends” and holidays for vacations, Clint and I were finally able to take 8 days off to celebrate our 8th Anniversary! We had a couple of free flights on Southwest and with the ability to fly wherever Southwest flies, we decided to take a trip to the East Coast to see Washington, DC, our good friends – the Dalleys - in Baltimore, MD, and the Big Apple. If you noticed, I said a “couple” of tickets, meaning we went kid free!!!
We arrived in Washington D.C. pretty late in the evening April 6th so we took the subway to our hotel to drop off our luggage before hitting the big city to grab a bite. This trip marked the first time either of us had been on a subway.
After we dropped our stuff off at the hotel, we ate dinner at a cute little Pizzeria across Connecticut Avenue from our hotel (the Days Inn Ritz Carlton). After pizza we called it a night so we could get a fresh start the next day.
Our first stop the next day was the Tidal Basin. We took in the...
Washington Monument,
Cherry Blossoms (incredibly beautiful!),
Cute husband,
Tidal Basin,
The Blossoms,
Jefferson Memorial,
Thomas Jefferson,
FDR’s Memorial,
FDR,
The Korean War Memorial,
Abraham Lincoln’s Memorial,
Vietnam War Memorial, and the
World War II Memorial.
Then we took a DC rickshaw (w/ a fellow Texan for a driver) to the Whitehouse
where we threw rocks at paid our respects to our head of state.
Actually, we wouldn’t mind living there someday (or at least a place just like it somewhere in the Hill Country of Texas).
We finished off the second day with a trip to China town for some authentic Chinese food. Turns out, I like the fake Chinese food better!
